Tonglen is a great practice. It does take practice also. 🙂 And not everyone feels comfortable doing this…exchange. If you do not feel comfortable with Tonglen, do not worry. There are many ways to help others and you will find one you do feel comfortable with. ~ Debra

Dealing with Anger

Treat your anger with the utmost respect and tenderness, for it is no other than yourself. Do not suppress it—simply be aware of it. Awareness is like the sun. When it shines on things, they are transformed. When you are aware that you are angry, your anger is transformed. If you destroy anger, you destroy the Buddha, for Buddha and Mara are of the same essence. Mindfully dealing with anger is like taking the hand of a little brother.

It’s Monday….What are you reading?

What are you reading today?

Some you might know me well enough …that I read several books …or a better wording would be…I have several books going on.

 

I rarely just have one book that I read to exclusion of the others. I will read a little this one and then maybe some of that one…and so it goes.

For the sake of today’s post though….I will only focus on one book that *is* my primary read … No Time to Lose by Pema Chodron. I really enjoy it, her words are simple but profound. I am on Chapter 2. So far…I love it!

So? What are you reading?…and it does not have to be Buddhist reading. 🙂

This reminder can’t be overemphasized. It’s so natural to want to confirm what is most negative about ourselves that we don’t even think about activating compassion or kindness.

In fact, much of the heaviness of our distress comes from the belief that we should be different.

Especially after practicing for a few years, we think we shouldn’t still be so reactive. We think we should be beyond our conditioning. But practice doesn’t work that way.

I chose this quote because it brought to mind recent conversations. Some of the conversations were with friends and family and some were within myself.

Being gentle & loving with ourselves …we can be gentle & loving with others.

Love and Compassion
