Around us, life bursts forth with miracles—a glass of water, a ray of sunshine, a flower, laughter. If you live in awareness, it is easy to see miracles everywhere. Each human being is a multiplicity of miracles. Eyes that see thousands of colors, shapes, and forms; ears that hear a bee flying or a thunderclap; a brain that ponders a speck of dust as easily as the entire cosmos; a heart that beats in rhythm with the heartbeat of all beings. When we are tired and feel discouraged by life’s daily struggles, we may not notice these miracles, but they are always there. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Hope…

is important because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear.

If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Direction of Compassion

The problem is whether we are determined to go in the direction of compassion or not.

If we are, then can we reduce the suffering to a minimum? If I lose my direction, I have to look for the North Star, and I go to the north.

That does not mean I expect to arrive at the North Star. I just want to go in that direction. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Smiling is important.

Smiling is very important.

If we are not able to smile, then the world will not have peace. It is not by going out for a demonstration against nuclear missiles that we can bring about peace.

It is with our capacity of smiling, breathing, and being peace that we can make peace. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
